My state of California is crumbling from deferred maintenance in pretty much every realm—old houses, busted roads despite the gentlest weather, public schools with lead pipes, painfully loud rickety trains, public spaces converted into public dumping grounds and squatters quarters, empty reservoirs, power lines that fall and spark large fires many times every year, and on and on and on

Perhaps it’s because they are #2 strongest entity? Or maybe they are number 1, no one can say for sure.

Your comment also implies that those who haven’t participated in colonization might not fear being colonized. Seems… off.

Not to mention the fact that all of those home countries are equally if not more openly racist and restrictive of immigrants from the other direction

The question is, is any country “perfect” in this regard, showing zero degree of self-selecting and internal favoritism? I suspect not, because it’s not really possible to have a country without focusing on, well, itself, first and foremost. Of course integrated immigrants ARE part of “the country”. But if immigrations swells too fast and/or immigrants are not well integrated, then of course that can present obvious non-racism-based problems for the county’s finances, infrastructure, economy, and culture.

Is anyone outside the west throwing the word “racist” around so liberally? It seems to west thinks it’s somehow evolved beyond the natural constraints of state/tribe. But, of course, it can’t.

No I don’t think so. The “Germany should know better” is more akin to irony

Soft bigotry of low expectation is not open hostility so much as a giving up on a people—-X people are inherently incapable, so just let them be, don’t expect anything from them. As a result of painless low expectation, no one strives, no one offers them opportunities, the people don’t move forward, and the low expectation fuels further low expectation based on poor performance.

Mor maybe you were referring to expectation of other EU countries to be unwelcoming?

I’d be various curious what country you’re from that such people would feel comfortable moving to. But of course don’t share if you don’t want.

I have zero knowledge on German politics. But I do wonder, if these same problems are plagues many (most) big cities (and even countries) in the west, including very liberal and high spending governments, how can we safely conclude it’s a conservative problem (or a liberal one)?

We’ve really evolved quickly into simple vectors for a magical tool that solves our problems. Can’t solve the problem? There’ll be a new release soon that can!

What’s going on with social queues today where so many people here are not immediately understanding this is clearly satire?

Using “this X” in the title is the definition of bait to me. They could, in as many characters, say the journals name. But they don’t specifically in order to bait you into clicking to find out which journal.

I DO hate him, and still find this black and white thinking unsettling, though not uncommon. Has all of the western world completely surrendered to the nuance void?

Regarding the beer analogy, can anyone on earth survive 365 beer servings of alcohol without dying? Are you demanding research that 365 beers at once is more harmful than 1/day/year?

> Pro-Israel people actually are in favor of targeting these kids because they might grow resentful of Israel and join Hamas.

I know many in that camp, and this sounds bananas to me.

The real version is much more applicable, because we can’t see far, because we are depressingly shortsighted.

In this regard, we aren’t standing on shoulders of giants, we are like an immense asshole of a dad climbing ontop of his young child’s shoulders to win a chicken fight in the pool while his kid drowns below.

Okay… do you not feel culpable at some point? Do you feel no obligation to expose these various individuals fleecing the tax payers? Your boss, the academics, and everyone else who participated or knows and remains silent. Obviously, you are now in the later group.

Yes I know it’s not all that rare, BECAUSE people can’t be bothered to blow the whistle.

You’re chastising the person above you for blocking out the world with headphones while bragging that you have honed skills over time to, due to desire and necessity, block out the world in your own head.

In any case, it doesn’t strike me as unreasonable to want to be unbothered, especially in particularly bothersome circumstances. You don’t owe anyone your attention, and the assumption that you do can and is weaponized by everyone from Zuckerberg to the fentanyl addict aggressively demanding your money.

Don’t some countries in EU have face covering bans that have to take religious practices into consideration?

Isn’t (non) taxation of religious institutions an ongoing debate? Wouldn’t knowing religious census data aid in exploring that?

Those are two things that’s popped into my head immediately. If I thought about it for an extended period of time, especially if I knew more about governed t and law, I’m sure there would be other avenues of consideration.

Isn’t religion, for those who follow it (I don’t), one of if not the most important aspects of their identity and life’s purpose? I love breakfast food, but not that much.

Don’t some religions not get along very well?

Given your criteria, what should be asked? Check the boxes for the physical and mental illnesses you have? What’s your BMI? How much time do you spend online? What percent of your diet is highly processed foods?

Is gender/sex also nonsensical? Is languages spoken also nonsensical?
