Why not flash it with vanilla Android?
hmm. not sure what that will do as it is vanilla Android that is the problem. Design decisions have made me a less happy with it than 5 years ago, nothing I see as improvements
One example is that you still see loading icons everywhere. You can leave the phone for 6 hours and it will still say loading. The only way it ever loads is if you kill the app and restart it. Happens both in Google apps and 3rd party. It's ridiculous they can't be bothered to fix any of the bugs that constitute a major portion of the user experience day in and day out while focusing on toys and distractions (Google). I've owned multiple Pixel models so I'm aware of vanilla Android and how is the same

I'm not experiencing this icon loading behavior on any of my android devices.
I am however aware of at least two people who are annoyed with xiaomi's android customization and bugginess.
Maybe grab another device to see if it's an android or xiaomi problem.
I say that as sort of a fan of xiaomi, just their android isn't something I'll be getting anytime soon.

The android loading issue has annoyed me to death on Pixels, Motorola, Xiaomi with carriers in 4 countries...I don't have any reason to believe it has something to do with anyone but Google, let alone xiaomi :)
In that case, why not flash another kind of Android?

This has been an andorid universal on Pixels, Motorola, Xiaomi with carriers in 4 countries, I'm not optimistic it is anything BUT a fundamental bug in the OS?

I'm not sure how to interpret your sentiment
I've quite liked that the devices are often rootable/usable without an internet connection in contrast to most other internet of shit. It's probably accidental, or at least an outcome of having to cut development costs to undercut competitors but it's made me always go for xiaomi devices when i'm buying new stuff.
And they got the best devices even compared to much pricier options.
Ironically, my Huawei notebook is similar. Best hardware I've ever owned, too bad it runs best with a terrible operating system that finds it acceptable to destory the user's data will-nilly to install unwanted patches, without consent.
