Here I was, reading the headline thinking the reason was that scientists had a bias in their naming, and getting confused as I thought they had some rules for naming them.

But no, the claim is people think female hurricanes are more cuddly than male huricanes, so don't prepare as well.

This paper is an example of spurious correlations that appear because of selection-distortion effect and makes the authors come up with "believable" causes ti justfiy them.

Intresting paper, but not sure if this should be taken as "common knowledge" the sample size of this study was rather low so take it with a grain of salt.
