Is that (Cat S22) really a dumb phone? It runs Android Go (https://www.android.com/versions/go-edition/).
It can run a variety of Android apps.
I don’t really understand how it could be classified as “dumb” anymore than any other smartphone if you just stick with the built in apps? Perhaps it helps you have more self control on what you install because the interaction methods aren’t geared to most apps?

Yeah the point is to make it hard but not impossible to do almost all of the things you can do with a smartphone

Times are changing fast. UX on Apple products is now heading in a direction that Steve Jobs totally had no ideas/opinions about.
"You've got to start with the customer experience and work backwards to the technology. You can't start with the technology and try to figure out where can I sell it."
I think this Jobs' quote is more applicable now than ever. Not to mention Apple's acquisition of Siri in 2010 was spearheaded by Jobs himself. He'd likely have plenty of opinions about today's AI advancements and user-friendly ways to integrate it.

This reads like an advertisement.
It’s The Guardian. They’re not exactly high quality journalism. They have tons of bias and have adopted almost an ideology while searching for a dedicated audience and revenue. I’m going to guess this article was fed to them by a corporate marketing team. It’s access journalism.
They are not bad journalism while also being maintained by their own trust fund, meaning they are pretty independent.

lol. Given the last few products I bought from Apple were trash, I expect the same for their AI.

The new iPhone that I was forced to buy for the Apple Watch. Both are a major let down in that they cost a bunch of money and don’t do much.
My AirPods are the only thing I could say is fine. But even those have major issues working correctly with my watch.
Overall the watch is what I’m most annoyed about. I bought the 8th gen and it’s just amazing how buggy it still is, how bad the battery life is (if you’re actually active), and how little attention they e given the UI which is clear when you try to use the Podcast app on the watch. So, so bad.
For all these reasons combined with the original sin after Jobs death of destroying all that was amazing about the MacBook Pro, I view them as a misguided company that lost their way and churns out bad designed and bad products overall anymore.

The dumb phone was $70
It has a replaceable battery replaceable Sim card. It’s totally waterproof has a two day battery, Internet, Bluetooth, GPS, limited unlocked android applications web access through minified android with t9 and arrow keys.
Most likely I’m going to switch to that type of phone too when I need a new one
I think people are starting to understand what they gave up by adopting the smart phone as an accessory brain extension controlled by ad companies
