I am glad someone is writing about this youtube on Chrome desktop regularly consumes over 1 gig of ram. Even running it on FF with uBlock doesn't seem to help much.
When I use 3rd party yt sites like skipvids.com I rarely go above 300 mb of ram
This is sensible. My Mercedes has 3 different methods of using the touch screen, each one is fiddly. It's like the juice isn't worth the squeeze, just give me a nice tactile button like the good old days.

I find Chrome Claude extension more useful for automating tasks online. Before ai I was writing my own macros which basically did the same thing in a more reliable deterministic way.
