Last year I got to work on a codebase done from scratch by ThoughtWorks India, it was a convoluted piece of shit anywhere you looked... and, again, it was from scratch, they made a 1 year-old codebase feel like a giant ball of legacy spaghetti.
So we don't fix the stupid economic system in place and throw immigrants at the problem, all the while making their origin countries even worse since it's now deprived of the ones bright enough to qualify for skilled labour... doesn't sound like the best of plans.
Me too, which is "funny" when it comes up in conversations, because people assume you left to earn more money, and then you tell them that you actually earned more in Brazil than you do now, but you have the constant fear of random violence.
I would say that you got unlucky so far, everybody struggles with something at some point in time, the kind of people worth keeping near know and respect that.
