Strange because I've always seen the saurdukhar/fremen as a literary interpretation of a real aspect of human nature - the ability (of some) to perserverve and excel in stressful/difficult situations.
Some real life examples I've pointed too are the ghurkas in WW2 or Russian hackers.
Increasingly, many of these rural primary industries will need on site tech workers as well.
Rural Canada is where I'm located at the moment. I tend to agree with GP that cities are an inevitable migration towards efficiency and that rural life is increasingly an unsustainable welfare state.
There are a host of "woke" modern themes that find their way into western media in general. I sometimes wonder if the next star trek crew will be all David bowies and Barclays.
Hard to say Netflix is worse for this than various other Hollywood studios tho.
