The alternative still has to deal with the problem of paying for news share. News are shared all the time on Hacker News, Reddit, will these sites have to pay too?
It's more like people are talking about the Spanish flu a lot, and at the same time realizing that the "Spanish" part actually misinformed them.
I was talking to someone about the Spanish flu and they casually commented "oh last time it's Europe now it's Asia's turn". Took me a few more minutes to inform them it's not from Spain. Both of us now realized that's a bad name. It's also the first time we mention "Spanish flu" in our lives, there's no problem using a more accurate name.
I see this as a community effort to use a more convenient word. It's not that political, no political party or government agencies are actively pushing for it.
It's his strategy from the beginning: Fill the news with lots of inconsequential dumb things to set the bar really low, then claim success if some of the things he does is not a total disaster.
You still rely on your cellphone and network. If Bitcoin becomes common enough, governments will find ways to ban / infiltrate / manipulate the network. It has already come down to seizing your land and gold, why don't they seize your phone, wallet, cut the Internet, arrest anyone who trade with Bitcoin?
People should not propose a law to stop that guy from wasting money, but people should be allowed to have an opinion about what is wasteful and what not, and allowed to speak out their opnions.
Me and my friends use Venmo. Why would I want to send my friends crypto if I expect its value to increase? I wouldn't also want to receive crypto if I expect it to crash soon. It's simply not practical to adopt crypto in large scale.
Vietnamese here. I don't think your explanation is correct.
First, most of the Viet-Cantonese words are likely brought by Chinese migration since the 15th century. When the Ming dynasty fell, many Chinese fled to South Vietnam and helped Viet people annex that land from the Cambodians https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoa_people
Second, tt's true that we "might" have lots of connections with the ancient Yue people, but this is still in debate. Just like the Romans called everyone on the other side of the Rhine "Germans", the Chinese of 2000 years ago called everyone south of them "Yue", even though they can be different tribes or nations. Being named the same thing by the Chinese doesn't actually mean anything. Genetically we have many similarities with the people of south China, but the history of vocabularies can be more complicated than that.
Most likely we will see an arms race where some companies try to filter out AI content while others try to imitate humans as best they could.
