I ran desktop Linux (Manjaro) for years in an enterprise job with certified hardware, as a Linux sysadmin. I regularly had issues and spent 5-10% of my time troubleshooting the OS or a janky application.

Conversely, macOS is broadly 'production grade'. It mostly 'just works' (with a number of tweaks - including SIP -, hacks etc on initial config, most power users automate with dotfiles). It has a drastically better UI, first class terminals and unixy support, and most code built for it has a higher level of shine.

I am confident enough to deploy alternate security implementations for the convenience of full FS control, as I know many power users are. Disabling SIP is a bad idea for those who don't understand it, the same as disabling Windows Defender or forwarding NAT on your router.

Not once in my many years of pirating books have I come across a book I need to remove DRM from.

For what it's worth, I do the same and I have multiple friends who also do this. We also buy band t-shirts and pirate music.

Lots of people want to support the artist and have a convenient system.

That's morally acceptable for me and probably for the GP.

I returned my $4000 LG TV after 2 years of use, as they suddenly tried to force me to agree to a new set of T&Cs and privacy policy. I called them and they told me that there's no way for me to continue using the TV without agreeing. Incredibly illegal (in my country), but I doubt most people notice or care.

Yes, purchasing a phone from an advertising company hellbent on gathering as much as they can from you sounds much more positive.

I wonder why people believe bypassing copyright law by pretending to be from another country is somehow better than bypassing copyright law by downloading the content.

Both are piracy, but the latter holds the stigmatism, and the former is openly advertised by podcasters and youtubers everywhere.
