I downvoted you because I knew that your comment would prevent any discussion about the actual article, and that was in fact what occurred.

This whole "I'm going to say [something offtopic and offensive to a lot of people]. This is probably going to get downvoted to oblivion, because nobody [ridiculous generalization about humans]" is feckless and intellectually dishonest. You do this because it will be downvoted.

> it was only in recent decades with birth control that was there even an option for most women to take a different role for extended periods.

Reliable birth control methods are sixty years old. And of course there have always been non-reproductive sex acts since the birth of time.

I'm 60, and I bike everywhere.

I have a non-zero chance of getting into an accident, but on the other hand, I haven't been so fit in 30 years.

My guess is that my expected lifespan is increased by this decision. (I would add that I live in a very bike-friendly city.)

---

There's a further ethical calculation I would do, which is that using a car is wildly irresponsible giving that we are systematically eating through our resources and destroying our climate and with it our biosphere. (Electric cars are better, but still tremendously consumptive of resources.)

So even if I were less safe and the fitness issue were less important, I would still choose not to use a car, like I have chosen for my entire life.

> The traditional finance system is no more energy efficient overall.

The traditional finance system easily does tens of thousands of times more transactions than cryptocurrencies. Visa alone does a thousand times more transactions than Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency uses over 0.5% of the world's electricity to do less than 0.01% of the world's transactions.

So, no, your statement is wildly wrong. I have zero problem calling it a lie, because you made it up out of your head and made no attempt to justify it with facts.

> Not for those of us that don't invest our money in banks/stock markets, and don't take out loans.

So you are paid in cash, by a company that also does all its business in cash?

Selling something that you know will end up worthless because you know suckers will buy it is wrong.

It's morally and ethically theft. Gross, filthy, self-conscious theft.

The fact that people just laugh and say, "That's business!" is an indication of how morally bankrupt the business world is.
