It's not much of a bet really. In the old days if a general got it wrong he would die on the battlefield if he was lucky or get shot before a firing squad.

These AI clowns will still have their mansions come what may.

How many Americans even have money for retirement?

It reminds me of 1990s Russia were the smart people didn't get caught up in capitalism casino and just kept tending their vegetable garden like they had done for centuries.

To quote Bob Dylan

"If you ain't got nothing you got nothing to lose"

Seems to me the current administration is at war with approximately half the population.

I remember when I first saw little girls with Blackberries. It was quite strange.

In the class room? No. But students could smoke during breaks at the schoolyard.

Funny that we as a society were winning for a while until somebody invented vapes.

Pods are easy to use which is why they were invented. In fact my washing machine doesn't even have a tray to put powder in anymore.

Hell I have a premium Netflix and premium Spotify account that I don't even use very often.

Gabe Newell was right. I subscribed to those on my phone without having to go out of the house. It was just a few touches.

People keep harping on about the evil Chinese but they seem distinctly less interested in our internal affairs than US billionaires.

I'm not really worried for my own country though. Nobody here ever pointed to the US and said "I want that".

How many statues of John Brown are there?

It seems to me that most companies realised that trying to stop piracy costs more than it saves.

You see this with videogames were they remove Denuvo DRM after a year.

Yep when the CIA calls every American salutes and follows orders.

Parents have always wanted time for themselves. There are Americans alive today who will tell you that they used to play outside from dusk to dawn and only saw their parents at dinner.

The trick is that you don't elect someone like Donald Trump. I just read on the BBC that the president of America threatened New Yorkers not to vote for Mamdani.

People in the Netherlands trust their government because noone in the 500 years of history has ever gotten close to getting dictatorial power unless you count Napoleon and Hitler.

Americans want a strong leader.

It is understandable. The Netherlands is democracy to comes closest to ancient Athens. Twenty different political parties represented in parliament. A people who for 500 years have never agreed upon anything.

If you need to hide from China you're safe in a Western country. If you need to hide from America you need to go to Moscow.

Wonder how long it will take before the Chinese are powerful enough that they can launch missile strikes? Or put bombs in mobile phones?

Right the IT people who work for Google and Facebook and would sell their own mother for stock options.

Luckily people who spend all day looking at screens make for notoriously bad politicians.

The headline should be that America no longer has free and independent universities and is speed running China.

It's because both Denmark and the Netherlands have more than 2 political parties.

In the US they basically elect a king who gets all the power for 4 years- including appointing the goddamn Supreme Court!

Countries like Denmark are civilised and do spend literally billions on trying to protect and nourish children. And it is a credit to these nations and the people who dwell in them.

But the reality is that there will always be a scumbag dad who decides to molest his daughter.

HN assumes evil but this is a "road paved with good intentions" kind of deal.
