Assuming we can make and dump dry ice / ice at scale through renewable energy, would it be a feasible / meaningful solution to even try, in order to extend time (not reduce temperature)?
Although the privacy related changes were somewhat expected, the timing and aggresive timeline will likely play out in Facebook's favor.
While giving users a 1 month grace period to either comply (share their data) or delete their account already seems like a pretty aggressive window that limits the ability for users to fully assess options or migrate existing groups/chats to alternative platforms, the short timeline combined with the on-going pandemic, and the fact that WhatsApp has become one of the primary means of communication for many around the world will likely lead to a very limited drop in users leaving the platform as a result of this policy change.
Beyond Febuary, once users have already shared their data, there is likely minimal incentive for groups or individuals to overcome the network effects and move to another platform in the short term.
This is awesome! I just started using the WorldBrain Memex and was trying to solve the issue of accessing other data sources, so perfect timing -- thanks!
Good to see this finally happening. I wonder how they're going to scale this out though -- AVs are still pretty expensive to build/operate (COGS/TeleOps/Maintenance etc)
Haven't seen a recent study/article around cost/ROI (not sure if these have gone down significantly) -- any recommendations?
Does anyone know if these types of bug bounties are negotiable?
As several people have mentioned, hackers can sell to the highest bidder and having proof that you have an exploit is probably sufficient, but what if Apple was willing to pay as much as the highest bidder?
This may also likely convince people who have sold bugs to reach out to Apple.
It probably costs them a fraction of the PR spend or risk of data breach/user exposure etc.
Wow. Never thought about this approach to leveraging RAM for cameras. Awesome guide!
Can anybody chime in regarding the resolution limit (640x64) -- If this is for memory reasons, could we pick alternate values such as 200x200 as long as the total pixel count is the same?
I tend to use both and keep switching between home/work but it just feels like FF is still not as snappy in terms of performance (could just be my perception -- no actual data on this one).
I think the Manifest V3 change on ad-blocking is probably a big win for FF and will likely make many people switch over to FF permanently.
It's definitely a great way to scale some of the challenges in recruiting for these startups.
A couple of ideas/suggestions:
- Clarify what is meant by "Visa Required". Is that an offer to sponsor/transfer or saying that you wont. I'm guessing the listings were scraped from AngelList, so it might have gotten lost in translation
- It would be great to open this up to non-engineering specific roles at those companies (perhaps in the future) -- It's getting hard to find good Designers, PMs, PMMs etc who are looking to work at these startups -- maybe not all roles but product specific ones.
I've been thinking about this problem for a while as well.
The somewhat oversimplified approach is to use iOS/Android devices with you in charge of installing any new apps and also inbuilt adblockers. However this still doesn't prevent email phishing.
The more restrictive option would be to use a router level / AdBlocker whitelist for websites they can access.
Ex: Facebook, Google, YouTube, Utilities, Banks etc. This way any phishing domain will get blocked. Obviously highly restrictive but probably the safest bet. You can always add new sites as they need them.
Paywalled, but based on the free paragraphs, I was kinda surprised that it didn't talk about the other factors that may affect sleep.
Currently reading 'Why we sleep' which is a fascinating book about the importance/history/evolution of sleep across species and time. (Highly recommend it -- definitely regretting all the sleepless/low sleep nights)
At a high level, my understanding is that the duration/quality of sleep depends on physiological, mental and environmental conditions.
It sounds like the focus of the article was on environmental (I would definitely love to sleep with zero light/sound).
Similarly, the 5-10 mins meditation may help, but if you're stressed out or have something on your mind, that can still keep you awake or wake you up.
You can make sure not to eat/drink anything by that time (6pm) but effects of caffeine/other foods you might have eaten earlier can impact your sleep quality.
Finally, the right physiological/chemical changes need to occur (melatonin/REM cycles/tired from physically exhausting activities) for you to actually be sleepy. Most people can't just sleep on command, although, you might be able to build/force the habit.
Interesting change in their business model. Wasn't the initial goal of on-demand scooter companies to give people the convenience of renting without the hassle of owning?
What's the benefit of buying this from Bird vs any other scooter mfg? Unless, this is some sort of rev share where they can let you rent in their network and make money.
It depends on what you mean by less known/powerful
A lot of companies that the general public doesn't tend to hear about are either outside of CPG/outside of your geography/outside of industries you hear about in the news or just private companies or holding companies. Some have really high revenues or # of employees.
A couple of companies I was surprised by revenues:
Do you have a goal/direction in mind for the end state of the company? (Acquisition, IPO, Lifestyle business etc)
It's totally fine if you don't but I would work on figuring that out with the team, so that incentives are aligned, before making a decision on fundraising.
Also, I've noticed that there's alternative sources of funding for bootstrappers, that seem to be less demanding in terms of equity/growth/returns that might be more appealing.
As in, if you want to hold on to more equity or grow at your own pace.
Came across this interesting idea of storing ship emissions as dry ice at the bottom of the ocean. [1]https://fathom.world/co2-spears-decarbonise-ccs/
