If I make my code non-GPL specifically so other people can use it for profit, I effectively donated to a for-profit company. Why the hell would I do that?

Isn't this possible by design? All Windows executables at least used to be also valid DOS programs that just output "This program cannot be run in DOS mode".

It boggles the mind. Literally everything happens in the browser except reading hypertext documents.

Which is completely backwards. You don't need mobile where you live (as long as you can get a landline), you need it everywhere else.
