What's odd to me is that companies don't seem to be targeting the niche anymore?

When there's no cheap but ok product, common sense would dictate that somebody would try to fill that niche.

Seems fine to me. The US is representing their interests, just as Russia does. I believe Russia has put sanctions on the US as well.

Russia has their good friends like North Korea and Iran to depend on.

If they want new friends, maybe they could reconsider their foreign policy.

You might be doing the same thing, if you think that your medical professional father would have any understanding of how an LLM works, an area in which he has no expertise.

To him, and most other people who don't know anything about the tech and how it works, it's probably just a magic intelligent box that can answer many things that he can't.

The marketing says it's this close to AGI and taking all our jobs, so that must be true!

Why shouldn't "the West", actually many separate autonomous countries, be able to sell to whoever they want?

Literally nobody is interested in invading Russia. Nobody wants any part of that shitshow.

Russia needs to start worrying about their own internal problems, which are both significant and numerous.
