I would be asking the same question if another company formed in the past year raised $6B to train LLMs. For example, Mistral raised a significantly smaller round at a much lower valuation. Just trying to learn how others see this.
My favorite part of this post was how they tried to loosely tie Yik Yak to Square's mission. But they didn't beat around the bush that this was an acquihire.
I used YikYak throughout its rise, peak, and as it started tapering off. It ended up being a comibation of meme/joke reposting from Reddit combined with a lot of really vulgar low-brow content. It was entertaining for a while but only due to the shock value.
For the most part, this is true, but they don't have it working quite right on Android. Opening the app from the launcher doesn't clear active notifications as it would if you launch the app by clicking on the notification. I've also gotten into a broken state where it tried to open one #channel in the wrong organization and just gave up until I quit the app and tried again.
Hopefully with this new money they can invest a bit more in their Android development efforts.
