The US used to pull business charters all the time. It was a common place thing before the world wars.

What if there was one day a year where it was expected for people to speed through your neighborhood at 20 over the speed limit, which ends up with a bunch of people driving into houses with their vehicles?

It's not really the fireworks that is the issue. It's the alcohol, drugs, and overall attitude towards a dangerous activity. It's a bit different than a random mishap or whatnot.

Like 10 people died in my state on the 4th. A few were not directly involved in celebrations but were just doing their own thing.

Does that really sound reasonable to you?

Like 80% of dog owners treat dogs like possessions. When I say "like possessions" I mean they abuse them by physical means or by locking them into small apartments and not meeting the animals basic needs. It's wild how people trap dogs into small city/suburb boxes and then 'train' them to be good(break them). I stand by 80% if you account for global numbers and not just western/developed nations.

In much of the developed world it's weirdly mandatory to have a dog or cat. The way folks treat them is so messed up. Then these folks turn around and claim they love animals. It's nonsense. Most people don't need a pet nor do they treat them like an animal lover would.

But words have no meaning nowadays. Everyone is everything they want to be.

A lot of folks forget that ancient Egypt existed for thousands of years without major changes.

Pre-industrialization, civs tended to come and then go(dispersing with other groups), as power structures came and went.

Americans have no idea how unfree we have it in this country. The amount of blind patriotic propaganda in the US is mind boggling

They're only "safer" to the driver. Large vehicles put everyone else at a higher risk.

This is "race to the bottom" logic. The only end to this logic is everyone driving giant vehicles in bubbles because "it's safer for meeeeeeeee" as they hit children in a school zone cuz the blind spot in their Ford fuck550 is a football field long.

Race to the bottom logic is rampant in this form of capitalism that we're experiencing. Everyone's excuse is valid and only shifts the baseline to more excess and extreme behavior.

I'm a white American and I've heard a handful of my fellow white Americans say this, but they can't actually show me real world examples or show me how it actually affected them.

It's willfull victim hood. It's a viewpoint of "I'm a victim in a system that has benefited me, why isn't it benefiting me over those other people anymore?" White Americans are so acquainted to benefitting the systemic issues that hold others back that equality seems unequal to white Americans. "Why is that immigrant applying for a PhD? They're pushing out a good white American!!"

When I go to academic events in the US(less often now since Trump) it's still 95% white folks. Wild how that happens.

Lol constant victims. I'm not trying to be a dick or rude. It's just that white Americans have no idea how entitled they are. The second someone else gets a morsel of a crumb it becomes a question of "Why did this person get something?" This is the exact thing trump and conservatives say to rile up their base and it works. It's endemic to American culture so there's no denying this. It's a question of "How much?" not if.

Not really true but white Americans love to say that. Americans are the biggest bullies and and victims.

I got about 2 or 3 paragraphs in before the AI tone got unbearable.

Beef consumption dwarfs data centers in terms of environmental damage for no good reason and does much worse things to water, but nobody cares cuz beef is a status symbol for people. AI is easy to hate and requires no sacrifice. But giving up red meat is kind of tough so nobody does it.

Look up the logging industry. Like 95% of those jobs are automated now, but they like to blame an owl

But they're not willing to give up their 3rd Starbucks or the day or the door dash delivery or Amazon prime. They all too overworked. Only poors go to protests.

Yup. Anything someone disagrees with is now "written by ai" as if that invalidates what was written.

We have seen that with people like howard hughes and some of the older families.

As an American, I'm so glad America is finally crumbling from its position of power. Americans need a wake up call because our insane hubris and stubbornness is responsible for so much of the bad stuff in the world.

My best guess is momentum. Some people are very, very brand loyal and have to do things in relation to what/how others do things.

In reality it doesn't matter where something is posted, just give us a url, but some people don't operate that way.

He will just say it's a different operation. That's what they've been doing and it's working. Republicans have no desire to stop Trump. Democrats don't care either cuz they want this power once they're elected.

While I don't think trump and co are smart enough to plan big stuff like this, I think it is pretty obvious they are trying to benefit oil companies and I have no doubt oil companies were involved in the decision to bomb Iran to some degree.

What I mean is Trump and Co probably spoke to oil execs before making the Iran decision to ask if they would raise production. Then they lied and said yes, while knowing they would drag their feet as prices rose.

Trump is a stoog. The folks around him treat him like an idiot. There's no way they weren't involved here. They've been around his entire presidency.

Shifting baseline. In a year or two, people will tell you you're being silly, dismissive, or just an old timer for not liking AI writing.

Think of all the stuff that's happened with. How we get something new, it's kinda dumb, then within a year or two it's normalized to 60% of folks.
