We've continually raised the price on our product as we grow and add features. It was nerve wracking at first, but now are confident enough in our product that we feel good standing behind our pricing.
We are targeting larger, more stable customers, and have historically found the ones that say our pricing is too expensive are the ones that require much more support and maintenance. Have no issue seeing them go to cheaper competitors - while our target clients don't bat an eye at our pricing (which is still probably too low for that segment).
Glad you are calling attention to this. We (https://jobboard.io) offer a feature for our users where they can have a profile database as part of their job boards (example: http://www.railsjobs.com/profiles) - Profile creation is super easy via LinkedIn, but we've had to strip back use of r_fullprofile. A huge pain for job seekers. We "applied" to get the permission to use it but were denied without explanation. Sad state of affairs.
Founder of JobBoard.io here. Job boards can be a great way to supplement monetization of a niche audience. Expect it to take a while to build traction, but when you do it can be quite valuable. I agree you should start by not charging for posting.
Once the audience is built up, by specializing and being in a niche you should be able to charge MORE for postings than a more generic job board.
We put together a pretty comprehensive blog post a while back on the topic of job board marketing and promotion, you may find it useful:
Curious what the author of that article has ever built or created. My guess is nothing. From the looks of his twitter profile, I think that is pretty much confirmed: https://twitter.com/joshconstine
So easy for those in the pseudo-journalistic world TC and much of the Tech press live in to knock down, destroy and critique.
Meanwhile, more talented folks keep building and creating....
As I understand it, this is a similar issue on any app hosted on Heroku. You need to CNAME to WWW and then 301 redirect non WWW to WWW. Alternatively you can use DNS providers such as DNSimple who support ALIAS records.
We ask sellers to create their own Stripe accounts via Connect on JobBoard.io. It's crucial that they be able to control their own refunds, the $ amounts on transactions tend to be quite high which means they want the money quickly, and it is much easier from a Tax perspective.
shameless plug (I run a SaaS job board platform - www.JobBoard.io), but you should consider adding a job board to this. We've got several "meetup" type communities that are making some decent income by simply adding a job board to their website...
