I did this when I taught my third grader calculus on the train, when she asked a question about the train accelerating faster sometimes than other times. She loved it, but I was just taking advantage of children's natural curiosity.

Do you have some examples that the adult could instigate, rather than waiting for the child to express curiosity?

Saves time, as in "no need to read any further".

The fact that a publication would think that using AI to "confirm" a forecast bodes poorly not only on the publication, but also on those who would rely on such a forecast.

This is quite the contradiction in a democracy. Democracies, at least in modern indirect democracy form, are popularity contests.

I personally prefer this form of government over other popular choices. But ignoring this aspect is exactly what leads to unqualified people being elected to office.

AI has freed most people I know from the tedious job of writing actual emails and birthday greetings - leaving then more time to e.g. wash dishes or clean the floor.

Seriously, if arts and creativity is what sets humans apart from other animals, then AI has almost completely displaced our capacity to even consider doing these activities ourselves. People reach for AI when they should be composing a birthday greeting themselves.

I respectfully disagree. For all the use cases shown on the linked page, a 240 DPI printer would not be acceptable.

How hard a sell that is depends heavily on how much that person values their time. I know people who are experts in their field, who have had their with-source Wikipedia edits reverted to incorrect or misleading information by people who have more time to argue online than they do.

At the 2400 DPI that an HP printer can handle, the printer needs to place the head at 1/100 mm precision three times for every single dot on the page, and not smear them, despite not knowing what thickness or weight or finish the paper has. That is not trivial.

This printer uses HP 502 cartridges. Readily available, but don't expect to save on ink costs compared to a regular HP printer.

They do claim that this printer will print in black when the colour cartridge is empty, which they imply is not possible with common printers. The only time I ever encountered that I simply removed the colour cartridge and the printer was happy to print in black.

I actually feel this way very often when talking to some younger people online. I wonder if they really competely lack this skill, or their desire for upvotes online leads to them expressing compassionate, but stupid and dangerous, conclusions.

The Moonlander and the Ergodox both lack Function keys. How do you cope?

I spend much time in IDEs, mostly Jetbrains but also VS Code. I'm also constantly in Emacs and VIM, and even my desktop shortcuts have many Function keys used. The IDEs are particularly troublesome as there are quite a few triple buckies that involve the Function keys. Another layer (e.g. using a modifier key) just doesn't seen like a good solution.

Do you ever miss the function keys?

I've always felt that this is and advantage to open source software. The vast majority of open source software that I've bothered to look at the code for used best practices, was reasonably secure, and was above all maintainable. The bespoke projects that I've worked on at various companies? Complete spaghetti messes almost all of them.
