This looks great. If only I had the time and the skill to build something like that!
If anyone is looking for an even smaller (non-DIY) MIDI controller, Monogram and Intech offer really great options: modular, snappable desktop devices.
For a long time it puzzled me how few small controllers existed on the market, with the only ones I could find being DIY. Personally, I rarely need more than 1-2 knobs/faders.
Thanks for posting this! I am not planning any new projects but this is a cool example of implementing a micro-framework in Python. Might just use it as a reference to build my own.
As a side note, I noticed you have Flask tutorials, it could be interesting to make a tutorial on writing a framework from scratch using Microdot as a production ready example.
I mean - yes? I understand what a stable identifier is. Having a unique user ID in a database doesn't magically enable likes on all features. But for the purpose of this discussion I limited my opinion to "public services", i.e. services with a social aspect, which overwhelmingly have this mechanic (to such an absurd extent that I can "like" payments made by people I don't know on Venmo).
Contextually I like the word "drop" more too. Saying that, I might want to sync a moment in time with a particular Yann Tiersen's piano phrase that's hardly a drop, more like a favorite bit that I want to hear right when the clock strikes midnight.
Right, I partially misunderstood your idea. For notifications and such you would need to modify the source code at a deeper level. But for just customizing the home feed (update steam?) changing the theme might be enough.
Ideally there should be a personal ActivityPub instance implementation, something that doesn't require hosting all Mastodon content and can be easily customized in various ways.
There is a ton of posts from lawyers confirming the fact that in many states you can get convicted for public urination and put on the sex offender list. For example, here is a post from a Texas-based lawyer: https://www.craiggreeninglaw.com/can-you-really-become-a-sex...
The reason it's so hard to estimate the real number of these cases is that the crime is listed as indecent exposure or lewdness.
Hi. I like the concept but could not figure out what this app does before I read your comment. I am familiar with the concept of a "drop" in modern music but didn't immediately associate it with the feature. An example or a more detailed description could be helpful.
The only thing I can think of is hosting your own ActivityPub server (e.g. Mastodon) and customizing the theme. Maybe that's the future of more individually-tailored online experiences.
Not sure what your experience is, for me forums still work great but they have transitioned from general social hangouts to very specialized niche communities. I don't mind that and still get a lot of value from e.g. music production forums like Mod Wiggler and Gearspace. However, other than HN I don't frequent any other small-ish communities where conversations can go outside of the stated purpose.
For many people Telegram will never be a viable option. It has strong ties to Russia and is being run from Dubai. While maybe it's not big tech (i.e. Silicon Valley), it definitely lacks trust as an entity.
