On the other hand, while I completely agree about the C codebase, the Javascript is at least comprehensible. I've toyed around with adding a feature or two, and almost got there.

The problem here is that limited overs cricket has been modified from regular test cricket in a way that fundamentally alters the strategy and flow of the game to increase the action and decrease how long it takes to play.

Because of those concessions to speed and entertainment, some rules that worked ok in test cricket break the game in limited overs. In this case, NZ was down to their “final over”, a concept that doesn’t exist in test cricket. Underarm bowling basically removes overs from the game and can guarantee a win for the bowlers, but in test cricket, would lead to a draw.

I guess I consider Apple Pay via Wallet, which I use, to be different from Gym Membership via Wallet, which just doesn't seem worth the effort? Maybe I'm unusual.

I’ve always felt like Wallet is mostly a solution in search of a problem, but maybe more adoption will help?

I don’t really believe that places that require membership cards are going to let users start creating their own, though.

We did this on Fire Phone for live sports and audio based X-Ray cast info. It was, like everything about that phone, a really fun tech demo.

Awesome. Is there any chance of getting MicroPython or CircuitPython support?

Man, don’t be a “hero” trying to restore a lower ping to someone trying to buy a kindle in Jeddah.

Technically, this is not a QR code. Under ISO 18004, QR codes must be 1cm x 1cm or larger.

Is there a way to use the official Claude web app with GitHub providers other than GitHub? I’ve put a decent amount of effort into moving away from there, I don’t want to go back.

I picked up one of the cheap 32x32 Bluetooth displays for a few bucks at a thrift store recently, and have had a lot of fun with it, but the upload speed makes it unsuitable for any frequent updates. Does the WiFi version solve that?

GHArchive is updated constantly, but the tables reflect COMPLETED time periods. So there’s no yearly/2025, yet. You have to look at the monthlies.

Source: just left GOOG after 5 years on the GitHub tooling team.

Because they were handed $2 and have to get the change out of the register.

That’s illegal in a lot of places.

At GOOG you’re required to, by policy.

Language detection (where “language”== one of the 200 languages that are actually used), IS trivial, given a paragraph of text.

And the fact is that the author of the web page doesn’t know the language of the content, if there’s anything user contributed. Should you have to label every comment on HN as “English”? That’s a huge burden on literally every internet user. Other written language has never specified its language. Imposing data-entry requirements on humans to satisfy a computer is never the ideal solution.
