I don't know what current Windows 11 does, but my typical Linux Mint is single-digit seconds, and my t490 is 7 years old already. Windows 10 is a bit slower but still single second territory. With more current hardware we are talking about 2 seconds plus whatever BIOS needs, see sibling comments. Maybe you have corporate AV on the Windows PC, or funny drivers?

My Thinkpad T490 will happily take any power provided voltage is high enough (15V+).

If you don't use a lot of quota the cheapest monthly Claude Code is $20, Kimi Code is $19, i.e. the cost difference is minuscule.

Kimi wants my phone number on signup so a no-go for me.

Heavy duty trucks run well on electric in the EU at least, as the work time regulation make for regular charging and lower speed limits for trucks makes the consumption manageable.

Electric excavators are there, as they are low duty cycle, see sibling comments for details, but high load percent for long time is a killer for battery tech.

I could imagine tethered tractors with power line tensioned in the air, but the grid building cost will be quite high for intermittent usage. Only some land usages and plot shapes would work economically.

In EU it would be some $3k for inverter, $5k for panels, another $5k for cables, connectors and mounting and that's it if you DIY everything. Prices with VAT included.

For physical machines of course yes.

The linked one is VPS, so all trouble fixing is easier.

> It drains my laptop's and iphone's battery like no tomorrow

Use Teams in Firefox with ublock for battery issues, somehow it consumes much less.

> It's the only software I use that, for some reason, has an effect on my typing accuracy.

That's because the typed letters appear with a large (often even ~1 s) delay. Close your eyes while typing and you'll be back on you track.

> The main problem now is that it works fine

Except from:

* notifications for channels

* search

* using more than one org (needs app restart!) although screen sharing between 'classic' and 'web' editions works only if sender's and receiver's graphic cards share a hw-accelerated video format blessed by teams. Not, it's not easy to check what edition you are running and you can't change it without poking js variables by hand

* inconsistent read statuses between devices

* 'incoming call not shown at all' bug (but you get a missed call notification)

* can't join two video calls even in two separate windows

* random audio device switching on every morning (even if you don't close the app and computer for the night)

> My understanding is that for car rental purposes, anything using Visa/MC (and not a national debit network like Visa Debit in the US) will work, it doesn't actually need to be backed by a revolving credit.

Many companies will refuse all debit cards, or all cards with "electronic use only" restriction, at least for the deposit, irrespective of the payment network involved.

I use it for a non-it non-engineer group and everyone is happy with browser experience.

The mobile app is worse as it only allows writing in a few views that are not easy to access, and is becoming slower over time.

The killer feateure is that it's very easy to move last $x messages to another topic, so if someone writes a short note that begins a conversation everyone is free to reorganize it, and also moving messages between threads is easy and nice.

Wake word is not expensive, you can do it on esp32 https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-sr/en/latest/esp32s3... (and then send audio to something more beefy as TTS will be marginal at best).

If you have a lot of not very time sensitive jobs, e.g. large merge trains, it was reasonable to have a not very fast runner run close to full utilization. Now that you'd pay by the run-minute, it'll be cheaper to move to a faster runner and run it at 10%.

It's not usual for PC, but if you select "remove animation" on Android you're good on 2 fps. Many applications do like crap as the first placeholders are given little attention, but there are only big refreshes, and only handful of apps written so bad that they ignore the setting and make animated placeholder.

The only thing is that you need to stick to Page Up/Page Down for scrolling.

Apparently Toyota+Lexus are ordering the most blinding lights without any reason. Talk to the dealer - if no one complains, they don't feel the need to fix.
