I was not aware of that - I didn´t do much research on the blogging platform - I just knew of blogger and medium. What blogging platform would you recommend?
I´m blogging about my journey creating a new video codec. This project is inspired by the story of the QOI image format. Today´s state-of-the-art video codecs is super complicated. And the development for the last years has been just even more complicated optimizations of the same idea. I hope to bring a Forrest Gump approach to it: by being dumb about the subject, and taking a different approach to the task, it might work. Following the blog, your comments and suggestions would be a great motivation to keep the project going.
Australia is at least 40 years behind in traffic management.
There is no traffic lights priority for public transport. Melbourne's tram avg speed is 10-15 kph. If you power walk you can go faster than the tram. It just sits there waiting on traffic lights more than moving.
There is no synced traffic lights. On long avenues you just stop every 200m because once the light goes green when you arrive at the next intersection the light there goes red. It seems it is synced, but to the opposite it should be doing.
But it's not only the monopolies that cause that, but also the combination with the need for infinite growth. A counter example would be craiglist, it has the monopoly, but the founder decided to stop "growing" 20 years ago.
Imagine what different world if Sergey had said: well pagerank is good enough, the money is good enough. At the very least we wouldnt have this crappy search engine with nlp and other crap mixed in that doesnt matter what search terms you use, always find the same sites.
If we now have (1) a better understanding of proteins (i.e. AlphaFold) (2) studies like this that increase our understanding how one microbe attacks another
(1) Couldnt we create proteins that are able to kill a specific microbes?
(2) Put these proteins in a "dialisys" machine, so that as our blood passes thru the machine, the proteins there kill the microbe
(3) Same protein or other protein help the machine separate the debris of the dead microbe from the good blood
How feasible would that be with the technology we have? To me it seems a good idea, as focusing on this type treatment drug development would be much shorter - since the drug/protein never enters the body - so you wouldnt need long clinical trials.
And given the rise of super resistant bacteria, also seems a good idea to my non-specialist self.
As everything in life flows in cycle, I predict the search engine that will de-throne Google will be like Google when it started - a simple variation of page rank.
No smarts, no bubble, no signals decided by over fitting to a biased engineer preference.
One just happens. Like just walking down the street and you find 5 dollar on the curb. That's like what country you were born, may makes things easier or harder for you.
The second type of luck you have to buy a ticket to get a chance to win. Like the lottery, you can only win if you buy a ticket. That is your hard work, education etc. It enables you to be in the lucky draw and/or increases your chances, but still not guaranteed.
What about if Steve Jobs didnt go to the computer club that day and met Wozniack, do you think he would have built the largest tech company anyway, just by result of his hard work?
What about two people, one unlucky born in Liberia and a lucky one born in Switzerland. Both work hard 8 hours a day breaking rocks at the quarry. What results do they get out of the work, and why they arent the same as they are both working as hard?
The joys of the javascript ecosystem: (1) creating complex solutions for problems no one has or (2) creating complex solutions to fix the problem of complex solutions that didn't need to exist in the first place
It is an endless loop.
The first dot-com bubble resource wastefulness was spending so much money on networking gear. Every one had oversized expensive Cisco gear.
This dot-com bubble resource wastefulness is so many hundreds of thousands of engineering hours devoted to mega super over engineered Javascript solutions.
Well, I just started an open source project to gather the data for such systems. It is starting as a database/graph of symptoms and conditions. But the vision is bigger than that.
