This is great timing. It's one of my 2019 goals to do more mentoring.
I use a system similar to the Bullet Journal for notes during meetings. I label the top of the page with the meeting name and the date. Then, I take notes with check boxes next to every line that requires me to do something (even if that means reminding someone else to do something). If you want to incorporate it into your digital note taking, just check off each line as you transfer it (or use arrows or something similar).
Inscopix is pioneering a new paradigm in the quest to understand the brain and its diseases. Combining revolutionary technology and methods for the imaging of large-scale neural activity in a naturally behaving subject, Inscopix has developed the enabling means to relate causal neural circuit dynamics to corresponding behavior.
This was on HN a few weeks back. I must say that I haven't gone through all of the lessons yet, but from what I have seen, it will help you grasp what makes good design.
What helped me to learn proofs was applying the logic and axioms they relied on over and over again. When working through problem sets (or doing extra problems for study), don't just stop when you can cite the theorem, but work through why it's applicable to that specific use case.
You can then start working through the general cases, until that's the way that you start viewing the problems in the first place. If you decide to go further in math, this process will really prove out (pun intended), as the basic logic will stick with you, even if you don't remember the name of the theorem you're trying to use.
When Gilly Hicks launched (subsidiary of A&F), one of their main selling points for the stores was having all of their bra sizes and styles available in the dressing rooms. Thus, you could go into the dressing room to figure out what fits, then pick out the ones you liked from the store floor.
I'm not sure if this is still the case, since I no longer work at A&F and don't go to Gilly Hicks, but my coworkers at the time were pretty excited, since finding well fitting bras can be very difficult.
> The choice is not a simple one for the insurer. Its board members, most of whom joined after the bailout, owe a duty to shareholders to consider the lawsuit. If the board does not give careful consideration to the case, Mr. Greenberg could challenge its decision to abstain.
Which is reiterated by the expert they interviewed:
> “On the one hand, from a corporate governance perspective, it appears they’re being extra cautious and careful,” said Frank Partnoy, a former banker who is now a professor of law and finance at the University of San Diego School of Law. “On the other hand, it’s a slap in the face to the taxpayer and the government.”
It may seem reprehensible, but they are obligated by law as a public company with obligations to its shareholders to at least consider it. Whether they join or not, and under what merits, should be how we judge them.
I first read the entire story on the mobile app, not even knowing that it was part of a larger presentation. The writing itself is very compelling, but the format on the full site adds so much.
Tracking the people through the thumbnail images and seeing the different parts of the mountain matched up to the images the story had produced in my head.
It's a testament to the content and the medium that they chose.
I'm reluctant to use Facebook auth on new apps for two other reasons:
1. I don't know at the time what you want to use my information for, especially in regards to showing up on my or, more importantly, my friends' news feeds.
2. I have to manage what information I share on Facebook itself rather than on the app or website.
I am sorry that I haven't had a chance to try out the game, so you may have already implemented some of this. The screenshots look good, though. Good luck!
