It could be just that almost all ancient civilizations were near water bodies that could flood. Any big flood would seem apocalyptic for the population size of the time.
I suspect even that was unexpected bonus by them. They just stumbled upon a way to manipulate the market. I have hard time to see any action by them as being thoughtful.
> If they had been smart, they would have been learning from Ukraine
This administration seems to have neither the required skills nor an interest to learn from mistakes. Even if they were filled with smart people, they would still fail because of their lack of skill and learning attitude.
This is why I don't trust self driving cars. It is hard to say when it will make a wrong decision and we are too slow to react as we are not actively engaged in driving.
> That shared infrastructure monopolized by a central government authority is exactly what the US would need to have fast internet everywhere.
In case of India, the government lines had higher costs and lower service standards than the private Jio. So it is not always the case that government infrastructure is better. If China can master nuclear, space, chips, it seems a bit stretch to say they it is the Jer engines where they fail.
I used to look forward to MacOS upgrades. Nowadays I dread it. Spotlight used to be great for quick look up of files, now it is pretty much useless for me. I am back to using finder and manually looking up files.

I think the UI look and feel was very ugly for many users and that caused its demise. The cross platform skin was ugly. The native skins were in the uncanny valley.
The framework was reasonably good for its time. By the time good looking UI frameworks came, the bad reputation was already set.
Why do we have to insist that messages must be made with lots of effort even if it is hard to understand for the reader? As long as what needs to be communicated is done respectfully, I don't see a value for it to be done manually, especially if the handwritten one is hard to read and thus wasting readers' time.
We don't hold the same standards for spellings. Rather we expect messages to be spell checked before being sent.
