My main issue with Notes right now is that somewhere along the way we became OK with software having no Undo at all, combined with the power to instantly sync your typo everywhere so it is truly gone forever, combined with UI that basically encourages accidents. So if I am perfect when typing with a tiny virtual keyboard, nothing goes wrong; otherwise, I could lose things in ways that are interpreted by the software as me choosing to lose them, which is bogus.

Having to be right “every time” is why it’s insane we still rely on things like SSNs and phone numbers that are difficult to replace but highly valuable and damaging if leaked.

We need to be exchanging personal data only in forms that become worthless and unidentifying in a short period of time, requiring secure refreshes to maintain.

Has Reddit tried “periodic fundraisers” like public TV and Wikipedia?

It’s been over a month or so since I logged in and I received an apparently-real E-mail trying to “help me log back in to Facebook”. I thought, oh the gall to act like that’s the reason I am not there right now. They’re seeming increasingly desperate-and-therefore-creepy lately and it’s not encouraging me to return.

I’ve done something similar but technically that only prevents you from visiting the main site.

If you want to be really shocked you should search for some of the host files out there that attempt to list every known Facebook-owned host; there are hundreds of lines or more. It is extremely difficult to prevent Facebook tentacles from being loaded by other sites, and it’s surely a losing battle (I bet they register new domains daily).
