I know the US gets a lot of flak due to the current administration's policies and actions. Despite that it is still the best country for immigrants with the caveat 'Assuming the immigrant makes every effort to integrate (learning the language, respecting local people/customs etc)'

Here is my anecdote. I was in Germany recently and met with a South American woman. We briefly talked about our immigrant experiences. She is now a German citizen married to a German man. However, she said she can't identify as a German because nobody made her feel like one. By contrast, when I became an American citizen, my American friends (white and hispanic) insisted that they attend the naturalization ceremony.

The best deals are always in shithole places /s

There was an episode of Fixer Upper where Chip and Joanna helped their carpenter buy a house for 15K. The neighborhood was dystopian. Presumably people were using the house for shooting practice as its one side was entirely bullet riddled.

Fable has been a hit or miss for me. It fixed a couple of my Github repos with specialized R packages for uncommon econometrics methods where Opus 4.8 had failed. However, for many apparently mundane requests, it just reverted to Opus.

Just to be sure, even Meirro is available only through Click Clack

Reminds me of another knock off Apple Studio Display by Kuycon.[1] This is pretty much a China play. There are a lot of reviews of Kuycon display on YT and people seemed to be happy with it. I think the only issue some people mentioned is that the brightness is quite low (500 nits). Meirro has a peak brighness of 750 nits. If that's acceptable to you, it looks like a good monitor.

Edit: One Reddit thread mentioned that kuycon.us is not their official website. They sell it through Click Clack.

Is any prominent Democratic politician calling for the SCOTUS reforms?

Maybe the county could just ask its employees to work from home so that its office electricity bill goes down to zero. A win-win solution!

I love California and occasionally think about moving there. But the cost of living considerations bring me back to reality. Despite all its problems, it's difficult to leave Texas due to the low cost of living (and HEB!)

It's unfortunate indeed.

I've said this before and I will say it again. I don't see any problem in allowing Chinese cars in the US if China manufactures them here under a 49:51 joint venture with an American company.

Also, I'm not sure how long CCP will keep on bankrolling their car companies. They are now competing with each other pushing the profits lower. Over the last year BYD stock is down 40%. Take a look at their auto manufacturers index. It peaked in November 2021 losing about 47% since then (https://www.solactive.com/index/DE000SLA0CA9/)

> China increasingly resembles the competitive capitalist system Americans were taught to admire, while the US appears to embrace the controlled “kickback” economy we were told to fear.

Your comment reminds me of a techbro blog I came across a few years ago. He was an influential "data scientist" on Twitter with CS rather than stats/econometrics background. In this post, he literatlly used linear regression on a categorical dependent variable. He just relabeled the categories 1, 2, 3, etc. Worse, when people pointed out the problem to him, he couldn't understand what was wrong about it and started pushing back.

It's been a while so I don't remember any details. I don't go on Twitter/X as much as I used to in those days.
