That "everyone does it" discounts the tail possibility that, for a particular "it": everyone maybe doesn't do it, or to the same extent. But now it's priced in. I rather care about that tail possibility and would prefer that the folks I align with don't so-eagerly blow it up.
Not to mention that the framing itself borders on silly in the same way that "elephants are good at hiding" is a rhetorically powerful framing for answering whether elephants live in trees. But it's not very informative.
Maybe they do live in trees! Or maybe you're not arguing about elephants but about ninjas or bird nests. I wouldn't necessarily disbelieve that there's either in my tree, but I could be forgiven for asking for more evidence than their mere preponderance and stealth.
