BUT, what we really need to do is use facebook data on the open source alternative platform. So, someone can see activity feeds from their facebook account and from their facebook friends on this platform. It makes the transition to another platform smoother.
Then, when facebook send their legal team to crush this, Use it as a means of publicizing the fact that "hey guys, facebook says it owns YOUR data and it doesn't want to share, but there is this really great open source alternative that you can sign up for"...
of course, the message would be spread via facebook and we could all watch zuckerberg scramble to delete all these posts and links being passed around about how dirty facebook is. (I've actually noticed some of my posts about facebook on facebook deleted!!!)
The virality of facebook could also be a chink in it's armor. People have far more power than any one entity when organized collectively.
If anyone else is serious about it, I will personally offer my services to a project such as this. A truly open network would be a dream come true, and another great success of the internet age and further proof that success does not always have to be monetized.

Kind of an elitist asshole I think. Good Grades, Bad Grades, who cares?!?!, just take care of yourself, if your grades are good, great!, if your grades are bad, try harder, if you're already trying hard, then try something else which better matches your abilities, We ALL have talents.

Can anyone here tell me if it would be possible to create a user interface for git, say if someone posted a link to a git repository, read the branches from the repository, and add some javascript magic with collapsible tree structure?
I'm not familiar enough with git to know if this is possible.
Hi, looks like something which should have a free/premium version. However, I don't think that you should limit the number of users/questions that can be asked by visitors. But extra features (such as metrics, customer subscription) should be charged for. This is only my opinion of course.
as a European (Irish), I can say that it's obvious that Americans are pretty far from narrow minded when it comes to tech given the high percentage of early adopters in the States. Anyone launching a new service would be foolish not to consider America as a key market, if not THE key market.

Jeff Bridges site is cute, and a really noble idea, but you'd think he'd hire someone who actually knows something about usability design also. Bring in some jquery and make it rock!
Personally I don't like the way 'zuck' forces us to communicate with eachother. Also the fact that he has been actively grabbing patents and attempting to monopolise social networking is cause for concern.
large companies, Please stop trying to own everything. It's ruining things for the rest of us. Apple and Facebook are two of the biggest culprits right now.
Guys, if you really want to get a good scare, I suggest you follow Jim Rogers, and Marc Faber. These guys have been massively successful investors, because of their ability to watch the world, and they now predict a massive global upheaval. Sorry to be a downer.
