AI is just a tool. It will be a tool as we constantly push the requirements of what qualifies as consciousness. Therefore I'm not worried about it. Almost all the predictions about future growth of technology were incorrect. We don't have flying cars, hoverboards, fusion, the matrix and so on. The goal of each of us is to live a better life. It always be and forcing people to give up luxuries for some external agenda based on slippery slopes is cruel and selfish.

We should have been under water, hunted by AI, overpopulated, killed by terrorist, smitten by god for our sins and so on. Luckily all it took was our privacy and a lot of tax money to survive.

This is whole a slippery slope. Always building on assumption of infinite exponential growth. But every exponential is at a certain point a sigmoid.

This is the closest we can get to magical runes.

Here comes the EU. Once again trying to regulate themselves out of the problems they caused by regulations.

Someone could draw a 100% realistic depiction of a CSAM from memory. Would he be liable?

You could just flag whatever you don't like as child porn. It would get taken down instantly and you'll get effectively silenced by presumption of guilt.

Yes you might appeal, but at that time your content might not be relevant and you will no be compensated for damages.

Arguing the "cost of the damage done" will ultimately require lawyers

I admit UK wasn't the best example as now it's freedom of speech is maybe worse than in Russia or China. But I feel like public does not trat it as the biggest issue of the UK at the moment.

Let's say Denmark for example.

>There is much more to it, like a free conversation in society, strong independent education, journalism, justice, protection of minorities, etc.

All in theory. Otherwise we wouldn't debate this. Historically none of these traits are unique to democracy, but developed society. US had a civil war over protection of minorities even though it was considered a democracy.

>In a democracy you have an independent judical system that you can use against government overreach.

Which can only follow laws passed by the government. Separation of powers is not unique to democracy. Again the coercion mechanisms doesn’t matter, but the severity of it.

You can benefit much more as a corrupt politician, as the blame is diluted between the whole government. Single king is responsible for it's actions and we even have a word for throwing them out of the window if they misbehave.

It's much rarer for politicians to even get into jail.

The best level of democracy is no democracy. The problem of voting for road repairs is a problem we created by democracy. We voted ourselves into a system we can't escape, just because people back in the days couldn't fully comprehend side effects of their collective decisions.

Very few people realize that there is option to not use government cohersion as a solution to everything.

I know this is unpopular opinion. The system is designed for this to be unpopular opinion.

But the problem is not the democracy, but the level of power we give to the government. If the only power of government would be to pick flag colors and national anthem, no one would care about it.

No one cares about UK having a king, because it doesn't change a thing.

I agree. But on the other hand, desktop is way too fragmented nowadays and will get worse with the influx of new linux desktop users.

I agree. That's why I don't use `mc` I find `cp *.pdf ~/Documents` much more egonomic

From all the things I read I'm pretty convinced that Mythos is just standard LLM with safety features turned off. If current models weren't reluctant to search for vulnerabilities, they might perform as good as Mythos.

You can still donate to africa voluntarily. I don't see forced charity as a virtue.

That Windows XP loading bar brings me back. Great job.

Just picture the massive load spikes on other SSL providers in that moment. And the fact that even those might not work, as their backends might rely on LE SSL 3rd party services for ID checking or something.

If you couldn't switch, that would be a monopoly. But single point of failure is when you put all your fruit in one basket. Airplanes have redundant systems, even though you can always buy new components. But it's much harder to change them mid-flight.

In theory this sounds great, but you only realize how much do you rely on a single point of failure, once it fails. Just see github outages or even electricity outages at your home.

Remember fact checking, snopes and stuff? Yeah, maybe a bit too late.
