Fifteen years is nearly 20 years. So, both is correct. I'm not sure what your point is other than splitting hairs.

I'd say it's reasonable to call 16 "nearly" 20 years. It certainly rounds off that way.

that people on house arrest cant get tested? or the deliveries? because one problem has been around for over two years...

I don't know about OPs situation, but house arrest often allows for basic movement (groceries, court cases, etc). The list is strictly defined and the law may not allow for covid tests.

Wild, I have been working on something almost exactly like this on and off for about a year. Well sort of, similar concept.

Basically, python notebooks with an "accelerator" library and strictly defined inputs and outputs - allowing you to run parallel jobs with parameters that do complicated backend operations normally not efficient in python, and then transform the result into a standardized format.

It's for a security-related-space set of use cases, but it doesn't have to be. So, I am very pleased to see something with a similar workflow that I can take notes on ;)

This is illegal in the US, which means it's rad as hell.

A friendly reminder, this is unconstitutional if you're a us citizen. However, they can still absolutely ruin your day.

On entry to any country, I sync my devices and wipe them.

Depending on country laws, refusing to reveal keys or even device-level encryption itself may be illegal/cause you to be detained.

The best thing you can do is bring a wiped device through, and assume that it and its data can be seized at any time. Also treat any device as disposable - once seized, it should not be trusted.

Apple believes that even when the computer is open, it should look good. Thin Steve loved joking that the back and insides of his computers looked better than the front of the competitors.

The pricing is pretty competitive compared to other devices with a similar resolution. These are low margin devices, with very high BOM.

The key difference is that apple cares what their computers look like when they're open. Dell doesn't. An ugly switch would ruin the line of the Mac's case and look out of place.

Now, you may disagree with that philosophy, but Apple is wildly successful for it. Personally, I don't like Macs anymore, but I do absolutely respect that attitude.

I googled it and came up with multiple answers. Instead of demanding people prove their work, take reasonable statements in good faith imo.

> But perhaps it's okay for this one distro to have an obsession with visual design?

The linux desktop is a house on fire, and elementaryos is standing in the living room holding up paint to a smoldering wall.

There's really no point. A few high sensitivity assets are lower resolution, but any state actor that wants very high resolution shots of military facilities already has it and on a quicker update cadence than google maps allows.

>I hope that this person understands his own argument in which case it's hard to believe that he is concerned about safety.

I think he understands his own argument. I don't think you don't understand the implications of why they haven't rolled it out.

What are we up to now, 4 years and counting?

> this is not rocket science

Quality control is one of the biggest challenges of rocketry

I understand that tesla is trendy, and open about "not having everything figured out", but I get the impression that this is a lot of tesla drivers' first luxury car.

If BMW or Mercedes pulled the things Tesla does at the same cadence, their community would riot.

Yes. It's not everywhere, but it's very common in regions with snowfall.

>Tesla is fucked long-term. I suspect Musk's plan is to pivot to being an energy/charging company - that Tesla cars were just a vehicle to get him a worldwide charger network and accompanying infrastructure (it's the one thing that Tesla does just about flawlessly.)

This was always my take as well. He wants to make cars (they're a halo product), but the real value of tesla is in skateboards, batteries, charging. I suspect that things like the roadster/cybertruck are tesla preparing to transition to a business model where car sales are not the largest part of their business.

Panel gap matters because it is a clear indicator of manufacturing precision, and it also affects weather proofing. It is a very strong signal (but not the only one!)

Most people buy cars based on brands, and also a very substantial amount of car purchases are impulse purchases.

Anecdotally, I rented a jeep a few months ago (compass) and it was truly abysmal.
