Teach. Build something and share it. Offer your help freely and abundantly. Think outside of yourself. And don’t force your help on anyone, just make your self available and advertise your availability.
Make your own destiny. You seem like a very ambitious and intelligent person. Don’t give up the job search but start thinking of how you can contribute to society without permission.
Understand what the earliest principles were and how they evolved into today’s principles. Find books written by the early pioneers or those who can introduce you to them.
Enjoy the journey but if you’re looking for an easy way, there’s none.
Reading 1-3 hours a day will get you really far in five years, further than those with degrees. Couple your reading with 10-30 minutes of writing and reflection and you will be a master by no time. Share your favorite findings at the end of the week in a podcast and newsletter, and buddy, you will be having lunch with Andrew Huberman in a few years.
If you want to get on the money train or want to be impressive, your insecurity might be motivating you and that’s not a powerful place to create a contribution.
If you want to build a cool product that you want but doesn’t exist, commit and start building now. If you don’t have the skills to build, go learn them.
Anxiety is a powerful emotion and can be leveraged into massive creativity.
Think of your emotions as a means of your subconscious telling you something important and the message is, in your case: You are underprepared.
So instead of succumbing to the dark-side of anxiety, heed the call and rise to the challenge.
Since you’re a programmer, start building projects that demonstrate your skills, and even better, building them up.
Challenge your self to build a small project every weekend and post it on a portfolio website despite any fears of judgement.
In a years time you will have 52 unquestionable examples of your competence that not only will attract the attention of your employers, but future employers as well.
Plus, and most importantly, your portfolio will give you the confidence you’re looking for and your subconscious will thank you.
A great deal is hard to pass on. As @muzani pointed out, most financiers, like VCs and PE investors, look for hard evidence that point to a future payout. Your challenge then becomes how to build/present that evidence.
Can you share a little about your personal projects that have potential?
I think in terms of you looking for a good deal, that might be too early, instead look for a network you can plug in to that can supply you not only with money but can perhaps recognize your talents (from a showcase of your personal projects) and connect you where your talents can be utilized maximally.
Search for VCs, Investors, Accelerators, or Incubators that specialize in the Video Game industry and build friendships first.
If you document your personal projects consistently at a regular pace, your friendships will evolve into professional opportunities.
