It's irresponsible to claim that somebody who synthesized a chemical has made a wholly saleable product. They are not fungible.
This amazing YouTube chemist named NurdRage has been working to make Daraprim aka Pyrimethamine from household chemicals for I think years now. He made his own (chemical) path from what he can get to what Daraprim is, and shares his opinion about the kids.

A lot of people already did that and it's already cheap anywhere in the world. The thing is, to be able to sell it in the US you would have to be approved by the FDA and that's why Shkreli got away with it, there can't be any legal competition before at least a few years.
Manufacturing pharmaceuticals is not cheap or easy. Even the US's National Institute for Health had to shut down producing drugs for clinical trials recently due to GMP violations.
