Since last week there have been numerous threads popping up about politics especially immigration and H1B.
When it comes to security of the nation, almost everyone is opposed to the idea that the President was not right about executive order. Why so much love for countries that pose threat to the nation?
Have you seen what is happening to Europe since largest refugee crisis started? Why so much love for unknown people and potential enemies?
When it comes to H1B though, everyone is up in the arms. Not everyone on H1B is from India. Although, India and China gets largest share of H1B, there are still far far better people to immigrate than a potential threat posers.
Why China does not get called out when it comes to H1B? Is it because there have been so many chinese nationals here (especially SF), that no one can differentiate? Why so much love for China but hate for India?
I feel that most HN folks are left leaning and utter selfish people. They know that have to compete with software dev. talent coming from India.
I understand that there are some companies doing fraud, but not that's probably 15% of total visas. Would a american do $70k job that requires attention to detail and putting 10 hrs. I don't think so. Also, people you call americans are 40% immigrants now. Native americans ( people whose parents immigrated before 1970) are far few and within.
When you have to compete then H1B is bad. When a poor man or woman has to compete for MacD/Starbucks or minimum wage jobs with refugees pouring in, then its not my problem?
A typical NIMBY thinking.
I thought this community was better. I am utterly disappointed with the stands YC and this community is taking.
I came to US through an offshoring company and then climbed my way up to top tech companies. I have worked for Goog/Ama/Appl and now hold a respected position at another top tier company. I earn $300k per year.
Well, I for the one, hope that this H1B bill fails.
