If you ignore the news, and you live in a nice part of America that isn’t riddled with violence, and you come from a decent family with some money, and you don’t have to deal with the police, social services, housing agencies, or medical insurance denying your claims, if you can afford insurance, if you have a good education, if you don’t have to worry where your next meal is coming from, if you’re not a woman or related to a woman who might someday need an abortion, if you aren’t in the military or related to or care about anyone in the military or VA system, if you have a good job and some job security, if you have accesss to affordable housing and so do all of the people you care about, if you’re not in the wrong place at the wrong time when some psychopath with an AR-15 opens fire, if you don’t know or care about any people who don’t fall into the above categories...

...yeah it seems pretty nice.

Quit trying to make this into a culture war thing. America is generally pretty swell even if youre not an older white guy. Just don't be poor.

Ah yes, the horrible take that is that you just feel bad because you care too much. The justified anger that you might be feeling is really what's making you sick, therefore you should just give up, accept the current situation, and surrender.

Seems to me sticking your head in the sand, however tempting it might be, would be playing right into the hands of the current administration. Regardless, it's a very bad idea.

Living day to day and keeping local, many places are very nice. If I don't plan on acting on the information, there is absolutely no benefit to anyone from me being alarmed about happenings in communities that are not mine. Do I want to stay informed? I sure do, but asyncronously. If it's immediately important to me, someone will burst into my office and let me know, or I will hear the sirens.
