I don’t know about you, but when my professional warfighters are duped by amateurish sex scams, I like to tell the world before I respond with asymmetric kinetic attacks against civilian populations.
You do have a point. Awareness is the only benefit I am able to identify. All in all, compared to other news of that region, this seems.. of relatively small importance.
In the Bible a similar incident happens, I wonder how many times people make the same errors over and over again.
Only difference is that the spies in the Bible version were real women.
Also end result of that incident was awful (lots of dead on both sides)

I'm guessing this only affected Android devices? But did those devices have the "Allow apps from unknown sources" option checked?
I feel like there's some pretty pertinent technical details missing from the story.
