Excellent article, well worth reading. Dieter Bohn makes a strong case for using the term "carrier" to characterize Apple's so-called walled garden. His argument applies mainly to the iPhone, but it could be extended to cover other areas as well.
I agree, great article. We all get to have our own opinions, and the way I vote with my wallet is to have a couple of Linux laptops that I can mess around with and then I also own all the Apple devices and I am happy to live within the garden. I am considering writing a iOS and iPad app (in the knowledge graph, AI, knowledge representation space) and if I do, I will abide by Apple’s rules.
Apple is getting more draconian with policing their walled garden and are increasingly trying to stifle developers while leaving no restrictions on their own apps. Eventually legislation will catch up to them.
