The ONLY things that will stimulate SOD activity are superoxides. But the SOD enzymes need cofactors to work effectively.
SOD1 and SOD3 (Extracellular) needs Copper and Zinc SOD2 (intracellular) needs Manganese (not magnesium)
It is possible that these cofactors will stimulate SOD on their own.

What was in fact happening is that EGCG was creating more superoxides which the SOD enzyme needed metabolize so there was more SOD activity as a result.
This finding means they will have to rethink their assumptions in thousands of studies.
