This is relevant to the classic 'frameworks vs libraries' comparison. Sometimes the hardest part of an implementation with a framework is fitting your solution into the framework, especially when you begin to stretch the assumptions of the framework. The gluing-together-libraries approach allows you to make the structure of the program fit the problem (at the additional expense of having to write more boilerplate).

It's a tonsure. A pretty tame haircut compared to what you can regularly see nowadays, online and even AFK.
