I’ve mainly seen friends use it as something to do while you’re waiting for the vehicle to charge. Does seem weird it wouldn’t be disabled for drivers though.
Yeah, it will inevitably be changed to be allowed only on idle, like you can't pair a bluetooth device when you're rolling. It's actually annoying when the copilot wants to play his music.
Tablet-like touch screens for cars need to just fuck off. Tactical, physical, buttons, knobs and dials are so superior and quite frankly, safer.
Oxen and sled. Much safer than engines and wheels.
First off, that's quite a huge stretch of my argument, and not what I'm claiming. Second, I'm not even sure it would be safer to use an oxen and sled on a modern road in the city center.
Further, what you're describing isn't practical in the modern age. Tactile buttons in a car work, and they work well. You can reasonably feel out and press these buttons, knowing that you have pressed them by their audible or physical "click" feeling, without taking your eyes off the road.
With tablets, you have to look at the screen to 1. Find where a toggle button is, 2. Make sure you've pressed the right part of the screen.
Tablet UIs change from screen to screen, based on the context of what you're doing or whatever, but tactile buttons are fixed in place, encouraging muslcle memory and further reducing the attention that is diverted from the road.

Why should be Tesla responsible for what people are doing with their cars?
Is Samsung or GM responsible for drivers making phone calls behind the wheel?

Tesla is responsible for the features it puts in cars, not how drivers choose to use them.
Drivers are responsible for how drivers choose to use them, but not for what features Tesla puts in cars.

I highly recommend reading the hacker news guidelines.

The most relevant part for you is:
> Please don't comment on whether someone read an article. "Did you even read the article? It mentions that" can be shortened to "The article mentions that."
But i suggest reading the entire thing, there are a lot of good points.

I fully understand selling "gaming inside the car" as a feature that you can have on the backside of the car, so that children can be entertained during long trips, but this is ridiculous and dangerous. Even if we argue that it's for the passager seat, it's still distracting for the driver.
