First of all, what happened to techdirt being used as an 'unreliable' source on HN? So it's now reliable now because of this specific story? I still don't see a problem with it at all.

Secondly, this reminds me of YouTube's aggressive robots banning users and screeching the terms of service at them. I predict someone is going to say the exact same thing these platforms did when all those conservatives, associates etc were banned - 'XYZ is a private platform and they can choose to do business with whoever they want to according to their ToS agreed upon by every user'.

Problem is with both of them don't tell you why, so this is no different to how YouTube auto-bans its users which could be close to or is even possible illegal.

Where does it say 'free speech' in the ToS? With such platforms there is no such thing as free speech. Only something called 'Terms of Service'. I thought people on Twitter like this person also knew that. [0]

Don't try to use logic, trolls supersede logic. "The rules are for thee, not for me" is universal with people who buy into the Us vs. Them ideology. Useful idiots will always be useful, after all.

I expect "free speech" advocates who claim that companies enforcing terms-of-service is censorship to lose their minds over this. First, by their definition, Truth Social is censoring their using. Second, Truth Social was explicitly going to allow free speech without the so-called censorship done by companies who enforce terms of service. Based on (1) and (2), this is exceedingly hypocritical of Truth Social.

Or maybe it's just that "free speech" and "censorship" and "enforcing terms of service" mean something that nobody has ever made explicit to me. Could be that, too.
