Wow, with a name like Lexus Boss it seems like he was born to run a car company.
Definitely agree that Toyota needs to start making big strides towards offering competitive EVs but still a little bummed since it seems like Toyota and Akio's "No more boring cars" philosophy delivered us some cool things like the GR86, Supra and GR Yaris/Corolla variants.
Is this because he stated he would try and keep ICE cars alive as long as possible? The shareholders probably slapped him across the back side of his head lol
Well, BYD (China) is about to enter the market in Japan selling EVs. So apparently the head in the sand technique is not going to work.

Related blog which paints the reasoning as to make a move towards electrification:

Very low-quality, low-effort blog.
Yeah, you are correct. I regret posting it as I now realize it was just confirmation bias on my part.
Electric cars are awesome! But I'd really like to see us get off coal before we decide electric is the way to save the world. Not an expert but doesn't gasoline put off less emissions than coal? Is this balanced by hydro power or something?
time will show he was right sadly. EV is a ponzi or at best a tool for the elite.
I wonder how many billions were wasted on their hydrogen car projects
Think of the opportunity cost relative to making that same investment in BEVs.
