Lawmakers, like supreme court justices, mostly don't act like the world they govern, so they wouldn't care about stuff that happens to "people".

Reminds me of how New York City Mayor Adams became very interested in Illegal Immigration from Mexico, once Texas Governor Abbot started bussing (17,000! of) them direct to NYC.
