Funny little project, though the days where "lol" meant something was truly funny have long past. The way we use the word today is actually very important to conveying tone over text, and so I don't know if I would call an "lol" without laughter inauthentic as much as it is reflective of a relatively new kind of communication.
I still use lol to mean "I would've laughed if this was an audio conversation", although of course it does mean anything from a slight giggle to more intense laughter.
A brief exhalation of air from the nose ==> lol
Two brief exhalations of air from the nose in quick succession and a slight smile ==> rofl

A chuckle => "I actually lol'd out loud at this"

I genuinely remember when the term was new and its meaning as literally laughing out loud lasted for about as long as milk.

idk. I still accept it from others in text as non-ironic, usually. (A woman in her 30s literally just texted me "lololol" and I have to assume she thought what I said was funny). At some point though, I switched to "hah" or the more expressive "hahaha" as a way to avoid the lol-insincerity trap. That plus some emojis also helps obfuscate how old I am.
"lololol" != "lol". They're two different words these days. I wasn't deriding the modern lol. I think it's actually more useful than it used to be since it works extremely well to define tone in conversation; its meaning has just shifted as language tends to do.

Just like in real life, the quality of your conversation depends on the company you keep.

Up next: a floor mat to verify RO[T]FL[MAO]
And then: ADS-B tracking of rofflecopters!

Not to mention ROTFLMAOAPMP
It would need to detect posture, detached glutes, and a wet crotch.

Glad this has arrived.
The most frustrating thing about LOL is integrity - or lack of integrity.
I feel LOL is thrown about without being backed by real world action and it's devaluing the core and origins of the true LOL.
I guess I just don't trust LOL any more and a device like this will go al long way towards restoring that faith. Hopefully it gets built into phones and computers in the future.
And as for ROFL....

For ROFL there's a mat with sensors or something like Xbox Kinect.
lol: Humorous intent acknowledged.
LOL: That was funny.

Does this mean you can't talk about philologists who lollygag while getting lollipops?
Reminds me of the browser plug-in that automatically downvotes HN comments that begin or end with "LOL."
The same plug-in that auto-downvotes comments that start with "So..." or "I mean."

Here's the video if Tiktok is banned in your country (like India): https://twitter.com/lanewinfield/status/1610294277434933249
Reminds me of the days when working in an office was still a thing, and I sent a coworker next to me a joke on Slack, and they replied LOL but their IRL facial expression didn't even show anything close to a smile.
Inauthentic lols?! Next you'll tell me that all those people starting off with Dear Im3w1l, don't actually find me dear at all nor are they sincerely mine.
That’s funny.
Maybe your next work can be a sarcasm verifier.
Lol this guy's is hilarious.
Can the 'username checks out' verifier be next, please?
The TAM for this device is the size of the internet
Now we just need this for mdr, en français
This is how I confuse french people. Join a server and say slt, then later mdr. That's basically the only french I know but it keeps up long conversations.
For russians, closing parentheses are the weapon of choice)) Elegant weapons for a more civilized age, some say (obligatory https://xkcd.com/297/). (Edit: I just realized this can be taken as a comment on them being currently uncivil; I did not mean to refer to the war, actually. I only meant to quote XKCD. Not sure if I should self-censor and remove this... /edit)

Are we finally done with this attitude yet?

This has been posted before (edit: not several times), so I will simply repeat my joke here, too:
You can combine the LOL Verifier with a special map (sold separately) to build the ROTFLOL Verifier.

I apologize for posting this if indeed "This has been posted several times...", but I couldn't find evidence of this here:

You seem to be correct, maybe I saw it on multiple websites at the same time. I found only one previous post. Sorry about that.
