If you read through it wondering about the slightly odd style and explanations, the end of the article reveals why --- the author "has an MS degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Genetics from Albertus Magnus University in Cologne, Germany. He has been working for 12 years on interdisciplinary research involving molecular biology, physical chemistry, software, and electrical engineering." In other words, it's an "outsider perspective".
