Off-topic: when I initially saw the headline, I thought it was about people farming termites. :-)
Spreading your own poop on weeds to keep them from growing, but without killing them, doesn't actually strike me as "surprisingly human-like".
People compose and mulch their waste to control weeds regularly. Burying weeds under decaying master (including poop) is super common.
