Ask HN: Freelance Billing in the Age of LLMs?
I'm no longer a freelancer, but the common wisdom stays the same:
- Charge as much as you can get away with.
- Never compete on price; it's a race to the bottom.
- Charge based on perceived value, not your own costs. There is no concept of fairness here.
- If you join/build a community with other freelancers, you can ask each other about pricing.

Are you raising your hourly rate?
Are you embracing milestone/outcome based billing instead of billable hours?
I’m relatively new to consulting (around 2.5 years), and trying to navigate this myself.
