Anyone know how much code is involved, and how important it is? I would think that the EFF or somebody would organize it's replacement with legally kosher new code.

SGI accidentally copied a few lines of IRIX code into Linux and it was removed as soon as the copying was discovered. I don't know if any other copied Unix code has ever been documented.

People will be making "year of the Linux desktop" long after virtually all desktops (except the US federal government and state of Washington) are running Linux.
