But then they should state that minimum size of Chrome is 5-6GB (lol, OS size). Sure this feature should be installed by informing the user what are the pros/cons; just installing without asking - means that you are using user's traffic (huge for mobile, for example) and disk (quite a large part) without notice, which is probably a bit shady.

Or Ente Auth: https://ente.io/auth. Opensource, encrypted, can be used on any OS, has sync/backup. The problem with using same password manager for OTP is that you kind of loose 2nd factor: 1 app compromised - passwords and OTP are compromised too. My approach is to use password manager's OTP generator for non critical services and dedicated app for the critical ones..

They did interesting things with priorities of keyboard shortcuts for the browser and changing the addressbar. Discussions: https://www.reddit.com/r/vivaldibrowser/comments/1jdzoyv/viv...

Nice list! May I ask what dictionaries do you use (I've just chosen from the internal list, but they seem not that "ideal" after Oxford)? By the way about backlight - on Android there is a bug with that feature: warm light can't be used and also if you start using automatic lighting it does not actually work. Not a big deal: just using system presets from device lighting menu.

Great opensource reader! Lots of options. I'd even like someone to make OS with ONLY this program + something to sync books easily. Without that additional bloat like Android readers have nowadays.

The owner of DIY FW13 12 Gen here. The only problem I've faced was fingerprint scanner: it just fell off (I don't know why, I've not done anything crazy to the machine, worked almost stationary). I've just replaced the button with sticky plastic rectangle and that's it: button works, fingerprint - no. But this is a minor issue really: overall this is the best laptop I've had considering that I also can upgrade it more cheaply in the future, I suggest almost everyone to consider this brand when searching for new machine.

Wow, this was a pleasant surprise. Now need 2way integration, so that Threads can see posts from Mastodon instances too. But what's the real reason for Meta to do that? Other clients will not show their ads like the official Threads client in the future... Maybe they just need to be "good guys" now, 3rd party with "< 0.1%" share are "OK". Anyway: good to see distribution here.

Just went and donated them. Nice to have such products: science research papers are always under paywalls, but sometimes just "ordinary" people want to read that to wide their scope and knowledge. Knowledge should not be paywalled like that. Also there are some situations sometimes that some books are just not available in some countries. In that cases such products can be used I think. In other cases - sure we need to support authors(sometimes publishers/resellers) directly if we can.

Vivaldi's team made a statement on the matter:

https://vivaldi.com/blog/news/alert-no-google-topics-in-viva...

Shortly: they disable the tracking forcibly, even if "someone" tries to enable it remotely or via flags.

hosts file will grow with records + you need to run specific scripts to update it. One of the similar options will be to use DNS resolver with built in filters (like pi-hole, but "cloud"), for example: https://nextdns.io, even free version is OK.

As I see right now - no: tried to open bing chat in Chrome Incognito and saw suggestion to install Edge. Same in Vivaldi just works.

They already shipped 2 generations of mainboards and more or less everything is really fine. They have good support + upgradability (former Thinkpad user, took Framework with 32RAM, but in the process realized that I need 64 -> not a problem at all), had 0 problems with drivers on Windows 11(but had some on Linux Mint). As about keyboard: just buy transparent stickers with your language, no need to wait for them to prepare engraved keyboards with "all layouts".

With different profiles you have different settings -> completely independent connection settings, if you want. What's the difference here with Chromium profiles for example?

But why is this REALLY "more powerful than first party isolation"? I don't need this feature every day, in case I do - just create separate profile and it's easy to run it right from toolbar. The only usecase I can remember: specific domains can be automatically opened in container - and that's a good feature to have, but not really a dealbreaker. Another difference: organization as a tab in the same window - not that really needed, just a different UI for not commonly used feature.

Everyone today writes about Microsoft with new Bing, but no comments here? :) This feature is good, a bit ugly on UI, but actually handy. I started to use you.com for everything for the last several weeks and it serves probably 90% my needs (programming mostly), without going to Google.

These are great news for the competition! Can't really test Microsoft's implementation yet, but you.com already has ChatGPT-2 integrated in their search for some time and it's really OK, I find myself to use it more and more instead of old search: you just get the answer + aggregation of sources + other results if you need more deep checks.
