Would it be possible to use this on the server to create complicated PDF files for download (react -> sketch -> pdf), without using something like this current process (react dom -> html, css -> phantomjs -> pdf)?
I have had Tinnitus for a long time and recently I have been seeing a specialist about it. One important point is that Tinnitus is a symptom and not a cause, so if you think Tinnitus is causing you to be depressed because it's a constant annoyance - most likely it is working the other way around and the depression is causing the Tinnitus.
If you do have this problem, then going to an Audiologist and not an ENT is really helpful, especially an Audiologist who specialised in this field.
I had it completely the other way round and realised my depression is causing my Tinnitus, they put me on anti-depressant medication and my life had been much better since. An ENT (Ear Nose and Throat specialist) will only be able to give you an MRI and let you know that nothing is physically wrong with you.
It's actually kind of similar to how a neural network functions, and the pathway that causes the ringing sound has a higher weight value than the other sounds you hear, so you hear it more... this causes your fight or flight response to kick in and you focus more on the sound as you think it's a threat, and the sound becomes louder - even though its only a phantom sound.
If you do have Tinnitus, maybe consider that stress or work or some other factor in your life is overwhelming you and seek help for it.
Tinnitus can also be caused by a Vitamin deficiency, such as Vitamin B12 and D, or sometimes tension in muscles in your jaw... very rarely is Tinnitus actually caused by being over exposed to load sounds.
I really don't see why investors would be too interested, but good luck to you anyway. My company was going to build a $50mil solar farm in Nigeria and we couldn't find enough interest in funding anything like this. It seems like it would be a lot less hassle to focus on large solar projects... The general rule of thumb is that Americans are scared of investing in Africa, even though there is a lot of opportunity.
Maybe smaller solar installations like this would work out better than larges ones.
What are you going to do if someone doesn't pay up, are you going to take their solar lamps away from them?

There are exceptions to every rule, in Zimbabwe you could have 24/7 electricity and a fibre optic internet connection in some areas, and I can't even get fibre to my place in South Africa.
Wow, teaching a robot morals by letting it watch tv seems like the silliest idea. TV would be such a bad source of good moral behaviour, otherwise it wouldn't be good tv.
I don't think storing permissions in the JWT is really a good idea, and it might makes the token size a lot larger. I am not even sure if I should store the user_id in the JWT. I just implemented this on my site api and stuck the persistence token in the JWT, that way the token can be denied if you delete the persistence token, and it's linked the the user and the users permissions... but it still requires an additional database lookup.
What if you issue the JWT with role permissions embedded, and the user is rejected from the role before the JWT expires. Then they can still execute actions they are no longer allowed to? It just seems like it could end badly...
I think it is still quite expensive and there is a lot of latency when doing a voice call. The solution works for rural telecoms in areas like Zambia, where it is difficult to connect a fibre or microwave system.
The current rural telecom systems are basically just a 3m pole with an antenna, with a solar panel and a small satellite link, and you have to work with the chief of the village in order to get permission and to ask them to look after the small tower. It is really fast to deploy and for internet connectivity it works okay but you have to start looking at caching pages like wikipedia, and other popular sites, and there will probably be a few days delay in the web content.
Interesting, Joe Rogan's podcast is the only one I happen to listen to that has adverts, and they seem like they always have a Squarespace sponsorship. In this case it's 5 mins of rogan talking about his sponsors and then 3 hours of content, so the ratio of advert to interviews is still not too bad.
I also feel like Rogan won't put up with bad sponsors or vouch for dodgy products because I'm familiar with his personality and some trust has been built up over the time I spent listening to his interviews. Perhaps that's the key.
But if you happen to interrupt the podcast with some techno-music advert and have someone talk about a sponsor or some completely unrelated product, that's not cool at all.
All the podcasts I listen to still ask for donations to help keep the lights on, it became easier now that most of them have started using patreon.com. I would much rather donate than listen to adverts because I think podcasts are kinda personal, sometime I think of it like an old friendship.
It's nice hearing from the podcaster every now and then, I like to hear about their lives intertwined into their podcast, sometimes over months, but an advert just breaks the illusion. If my podcasts start getting spammed with adverts I will definitely be unsubscribing.
I think most niche podcasts are still going to struggle to make a profit from their work.

I think one of the best examples I know of is Cape Town, but it is definitely a microcosm compared to the rest of Africa. There is an initiative to create a silicon valley environment with angel investors as well, http://www.siliconcape.com. There are opportunities for government investing options as well, which provide funding in exchange for creating a company that can provide stable jobs to locals for years to come.
I think the the situation in South Africa will also improve as we start developing the square kilometre radio telescope array to the north of Cape Town - which will require large amounts of server and computing power for data processing. This will attract more international interest, and Cape Town is also the home of an Amazon dev. centre.
It is true that Ghana has good internet access, the same is true for Zimbabwe (even though it has such a bad reputation, fibre optic internet is available). I think in the future we will see more data centres being built in Africa for worldwide redundancy. I think this will happen in Ghana and Nigeria as they have oil reserves to power the data centres as well as low risk for earth quakes.
I think there are lots of opportunities for tech hubs to arise in Africa, even though there are still lots of problems, it may even happen in an unlikely place, for instance Mauritius is trying to be forward thinking and is going to start providing tablets to every child on the island. Zambia are pushing for improved tech infrastructure - widespread rural telecommunications, which may lead to the development of large mesh networks. I think we have many opportunities to solve these problems we face in Africa with technology, with many opportunities for growth, and Africans are particularly hungry for change.
