Communication is a big deal in remote teams, we've been discussing it on Remote-first Conference in January. I'd recommend you listening to our recorded sessions, especially Vivek Nair (Founder at Pragli) and Oksana Zavoyko (Founder of Elin): https://6nomads.com/remote-conf
Interesting rules, thanks for sharing.
We've just made an online conference on remote work and team management with 12 industry experts, you can check out the recordings as well: https://6nomads.com/remote-conf
Recently we were hosting Remote-first Online Conference and some speakers like Kaylie Boogaerts (People & Culture Manager at LaterPay) and Iwo Szapar (CEO of Remote-how) were covering similar topics.
It'll be great to join your discussion and find more about remote culture and distributed teams.
Distributed teams — the future that's already come for the IT-industry. It's awesome to see so many companies like GitLab, Doist, Buffer, Xapo and many more, have been employing the use of distributed teams for a while now.
Also, it great to see Time Doctor in the award list. Last week we were hosting Remote-first Online Conference and Liam McIvor Martin (Co-Founder at Time Doctor) was one of the speakers.
You can check out his speech "Five golden rules of hiring remote" as well as other speakers here: https://6nomads.com/remote-conf
Well, that's a hard one. Raising a child is overwhelming enough so putting work on top of that is not making things easier. If you can do something like daily 'shifts' that might help. I suppose hiring nanny is also crucial. If you want to work at home try to make a separate room for your office.

At 6nomads, we have developed a tool that helps hire remote workers, because we firmly believe the future lies with distributed teams.
We select the best talents around the world and match them with fast-growing tech startups.
There's no need to pass formal multistage interviews in each company, our expertise is trusted, so, having spent 1.5 hours, you'll get many excellent offers from employers and a lot of saved time.
During our research, we’ve asked developers to choose the most important difficulties that remote work entails:
Almost half of our respondents say they don’t feel boundaries between their work and personal life. Moreover, the opportunity to not go to the office creates temptation or the ability to spend more time working;
A fifth of the respondents feel detached from the team or have difficulties in communication. These aspects emphasize the importance of proper communication with your employees;
Also, 20% of experienced respondents have difficulties with self-organization and loneliness.
It’s important to control the overworking compulsion and build strong communication within your team. Don’t let your employees feel isolated and try to spot burnout, because it may lead to disastrous effects. The short-term result of increased productivity isn’t worth losing a good specialist.
You can also check out 6nomads (https://6nomads.com). It's a platform for engineers who are looking for a full-time remote job in a tech company. We select the best talents around the world and match them with fast-growing tech startups.

I think hiring young professionals is not the best option for a startup. They consume a lot of your time and energy and can't be as productive as middle or senior specialist.
